Heroes and their motives can be defined with using a few simple words: Romance, Justice, Destiny, and Desire among with many others. In understanding some of these terms you will then be able to relate to heroes and why they do what they do. Outside of the ones discussed on this website, you can incorporate these terms with others as well. You have the hero Batman who is fueled by serving justice. You can also talk about a group of heroes, such as the movie “300”where the soldiers defend the enemy based off of their desire to protect their land, their destiny as legendary warriors and to keep their distinguished identity as fearful warriors. Heroes don’t have to be just individuals, but can also be groups of people as well. They also don’t need to be men either. Susan B. Anthony is a perfect example; she was a hero to the African-American culture when needed most. She was fueled on justice and desire, just like all the others we have discussed. In using these types of terms and relating them to the heroes we look up to not just from modern society but history as well we can truly see their motives, motivation and reasoning for their actions.
